Objectives:

  • The practice strengthens future-oriented thinking, a sense of hope and agency. It helps to create a connection between present decisions and possible future developments.

Preparation: A quiet, safe space where you can sit and write or draw.

Tools needed: Paper, pen, creative tools (optional)

Description

Start with a short grounding, breathing or mindfulness, to make the atmosphere safe for imagination.
Introduce the participants to an imagination: close their eyes and let their imagination take them into the future… imagine living in a more sustainable world in 20 years.
Help them with the following questions, at a slow pace:
– what is the environment like
– how do people live
– what is the relationship with nature like
– what has changed in everyday life?
Leave some time for reflection for each question, and at the end gently guide them back to the present… let the image fade away and gradually return to the present, opening their eyes. Check if everyone is okay, if they were able to return.

Then ask them to write or draw a “memory” from this future as if it had already happened.
Share it in small groups.
Finally, bring attention back to the present: what processes, decisions, and changes led to this future? Discuss them together.
Question ideas:
– What was the most vivid thing about this future?
– What made this world possible?
– What role did you play in it?
– What is the first step you can take right now?

Variations

Future scenes can be displayed with movement or short cutscenes.
