Use of nature products

- Learning uses of nature products: wild plants, herbs etc. for cooking, preparing cosmetics, remedies and so on.
- Learning about previous generations' and different cultures' way of using nature products.
- Offering a platform for intergenerational and intercultural dialogue.
Preparation: The activity should take place in varied nature with access to indoors (kitchen, workshop space). If completely indoors, plants, herbs etc. should be collected beforehand for display and materials.
Tools needed: Depending on the focus: cooking facilities, ingredients for making natural cosmetics or remedies, fabric dyeing etc
Description
The ideal group is a combination of people with different ages and backgrounds. The workshop aims at sharing and exchanging information about how nature products are being used in different regions, decades, cultures and communities. Participants bring their own knowledge, stories and memories to the group and share them with others. Depending on the time at hand the workshop is either a story, picture and memory exchange or a hands-on workshop for preparing something. Maybe an intergenerational cookbook or guide for natural cosmetics will be the end result.
Intergenerational aspect can focus on the differencies in meals during different decades or the usage of cosmetic products.
Interculturally the exchange can be the different uses of the same plant and the varieties in diet, nature connection and use in different parts of the world.
The workshop can concentrate on a specific topic: mushrooms, foraging wild plants and herbs, remedial plants, plants used for dyeing fabric or other handicraft...
Also the topic of freedom to roam should be addressed, as well as the nature etiquette in general.
Ideally the workshop is a part of a bigger entity on the topic of nature knowledge and connection or homestead skills.
