  • Building confidence for seniors in using modern technology
  • Helping young people develop patience and clear communication skills.
  • Fostering meaningful intergenerational conversations beyond just tech topics.

Preparation: Find a group of active seniors to participate with a group of youth. There might be tech-teaching groups for seniors in your local community, library, educational institutes etc.

Tools needed: IT and digital media devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops, cameras, game consoles...)

Description

Bring together a group of young people and a group of seniors for a reciprocal exchange of digital tech skills.

Create a mutually beneficial learning environment where knowledge flows both ways. Seniors can teach youth about netiquette, critical thinking, problem-solving, and pre-digital communication methods. While teens can demonstrate smartphone functions, energy saving modes, social media navigation and content, and digital safety practices.

Comments

Needs quite a lot of enthusiasm and patience from all parties involved. Considering the work needed to collect the groups, works better as an ongoing activity and not as onetime event; such as a regular skill exchange afternoon or a festival around the theme.
