Framing the nature
Objectives:
- Mindful and calming nature observation. Shifting ones focus from small detail to a bigger image and back. Concentrating on the nature elements around oneself.
Preparation: The activity takes place in the nature. Possibly a shared online resource for pictures is introduced.
Tools needed: Empty picture frames or frames cut from cardboard. A bell or gong to call participants back to the group.
Description
Participants spread around in the nature and focus on it silently. Looking through the frame, the focus can be shifted from very small details to a larger image and back.
When an interesting spot is found and framed, participants can either take a picture of it and send it to shared online resource or remember it for sharing.
The group gathers together and goes through the framed images, either online or moving from one spot to another. The on who framed the nature element shares their thoughts on it.
Variations
The activity can be done without picture frame by forming a frame with fingers (frame, heart shape...). Another person is needed to take the photo, so this variation is done in pairs. It is not as silent and mindful as solo activity but concentrates also on communication and sharing.
