WHO WE ARE

We are a small group of committed, eco-hearted non-formal trainers who have identified the urgent need to improve ecoliteracy among people of all ages and social backgrounds. While there are some great initiatives and resource collections available, we felt the need for a comprehensive and user-friendly platform to support fellow trainers and like-minded individuals in making ecoliteracy more accessible and impactful.

The Ecoliteracy Hub is the realization of a long-held dream by two NGOs dedicated to eco-education for decades. Its mission is to support people in developing their eco-intelligence and, based on that awareness, take meaningful steps and actions toward a positive future.

Asociación Biodiversa and Szatyor Association have combined their expertise in an Erasmus+ Adult Education program. This website, along with the Pool of Eco-Trainers, are the main outcomes of this collaboration.

We hope to continue this work in the long term, together with other NGOs, allies and supporters, to promote ecoliteracy and inspire change in communities across Europe and beyond.

Szatyor Association

Hungary

Szatyor Association is dedicated to raising awareness about the positive environmental impacts of sustainable living and conscious consumption. We promote ecological approaches through education, project and event management, and social entrepreneurship. Our mission is to create a space for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices in socio-ecological sustainability. As an alternative green organization, we aim to demonstrate how conscious lifestyle choices, healthy living, organic production, and a fair economy can be meaningfully integrated into everyday life.

Our primary focus areas include sustainable community development, education on ecoliteracy and the GreenComp Framework, promoting sustainable lifestyles in rural areas, exploring degrowth and deep ecology, applying permaculture practices, and empowering youth workers through ‘training of trainers’ programs that highlight the value of non formal education.

Asociación Biodiversa

Spain

Biodiversa is a non-profit, non-governmental grassroots environmental organization dedicated to providing meaningful nature-based learning experiences for both young people and adults.

We primarily use non-formal, transformative, and experiential learning methodologies that foster sustainability, raise environmental awareness, and help restore our connection with ourselves, each other, and the natural world.

Our Mission: To promote care for nature and the environment through education and awareness-raising.

Our Vision: A world where humans live in harmony with themselves, one another, and their environment.

Based in Asturias, Spain, our work has an international scope. We frequently collaborate on European-funded projects while also engaging in local and national initiatives upon demand.

Era Karman

Hungary

I am a freelance non-formal trainer with over 20 years of experience in NGO and community development, focusing on environmental and social sustainability, permaculture, and volunteer management. Back before 2008, I started an informal group to connect farmers with city dwellers, which later became part of a broader movement in Hungary known as shopping communities.

I am also one of the founders of the Szatyor Association, which was created to raise awareness about the benefits of local and organic food. Today, within the association, I am responsible for educational programmes and project management with experiences mainly on Erasmus+ and ESC programs.

I am passionate about holistic plant science, soil health, and mindful cooking. I believe in learning through experience, reconnecting people with nature and building communities that support ecological and social well-being. Whether I’m designing a workshop, cooking with seasonal ingredients, or walking through the forest with participants, my goal is to inspire small but meaningful changes in everyday life.

Esther Vallado

Spain

Esther is a committed environmentalist, founding manager of the environmental education organization Asociación Biodiversa, and a non-formal learning trainer specializing in environmental issues, nature connection, and personal development through nature-based methods.

She holds a degree in Environmental Sciences and has worked with several leading nature conservation organizations. Her true calling emerged when she discovered the transformative potential of non-formal learning. Since then, both as a freelancer and through Biodiversa, she has focused on creating meaningful nature-based learning experiences for young people and adults, as well as writing about these experiences.

A lifelong advocate for nature and its conservation, and deeply concerned about humanity’s impact on the global ecosystem, Esther is currently exploring the fields of systems thinking, degrowth, biomimicry, and neuroscience, with the goal of integrating these perspectives into the non-formal learning practices she designs.

Katalin Gál

Hungary

Textile artist, graphic designer, community facilitator and emerging trainer in non formal education. At Szatyor Association, I strengthen the team as a communications expert, and I contribute to this project as a graphic designer. My personal focus lies in supporting grassroots small communities—for this purpose, we created a community development tool called the TREECO CARD. I deeply believe in the power of the Ecoliteracy Hub and feel a strong personal connection to its mission. In the future, I plan to take part in an eco-trainer training program.
